Hello everyone! Empty
PostSubject: Hello everyone!   Hello everyone! EmptyThu Jan 28, 2010 10:21 am

I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello.
I live in USA, TN. I am an artist, a children's book writer and a homeschooling mom of three children. I have found this forum through Goodreads group and I am looking forward to getting to know everyone.

I was born in Russia and lived there and attended Moscow State University there for three years studying journalism and broadcasting. I had my first personal art exhibition my first year at college. I have been painting seriously since 17 years of age -- that is when I decided I was going to be an artist. Since 1993 I live in America. I have attended Belmont University here, graduated, married and had my three children.

I wrote my first children's book after my 2nd child was born. My first one was a boy and we happily read tons of books together enjoying every word. After my daughter was born, I suddenly became more conscious about the roles girls were assigned in most fairytales -- they all sat on their behinds in tall towers, waited for the prince while sleeping in glass coffins and so on. At about three years of age, when my daughter decided to change the way she was role playing Snow White -- she kicked the bad Queen Mother out of castle and refused to scrub the floors, I had my first fairytale ready for her and it all progressed from there.
Together we found a lot of books in the years to come with strong girl characters. She loved all the traditional fairytales, but whenever she played pretend I could not help notice that she always changed the roles of Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and ... by giving them more proactive roles in her games.
Years passed before I published my fairytales. The books I am having a "big" run with are actually two children's poetry books I wrote together with my children, "Oberon" and "The Fairy Book". About a year and a half ago I taught my children a poetry seminar all summer long. They bravely learned all about meter, quatrains, haiku, cinquains, senryu and etc.. At the end of summer they each wrote a fantasy-adventure-in-rhyme using all the poetry styles they learned and I wrote together with them. We had most incredible time together. Later I published the books in paperback and as ebooks.
"The Fairy Book" is currently, #55 today, in the top 100 bestsellers in Children's ebooks section on Barnes and Noble website

It has been #1 Bestseller in Children's ebooks poetry section since the beginning of January.
"Oberon" stayed in the top 10 in Children's poetry ebooks section most of January
